Shoreline Management Planning

Kitsap County is required to update its Shoreline Master Program (SMP) by December 1, 2011. This comprehensive land-use plan sets policies and regulations for all marine, stream and lake shorelines. The last comprehensive update by Kitsap County was in 1971—39 years ago! Extensive shoreline development and populaiton increases since then seriously threaten water quality, salmon recovery and shellfish harvesting.
The need to balance public and private needs, while protecting and preserving these precious resources, requires informed participation and cooperation at all levels. Changes to the SMP will have a far-reaching impact on the economic and environmental health of Kitsap County. The goal of this forum is help citizens play a positive role in the outcome.
SPEAKER: Tim Trohimovich has more than 25 years of growth management experience, most recently as Comprehensive Planning Division Manager for the City of Redmond, where he participated in GMA appeals and worked extensively with citizens, elected officials, and planners. Tim has also worked on land-use issues as hearing examiner in McCleary and Elma, and as a Legal Planner for the Department of Ecology. He is certified by the American Institute of City Planners and is a member of the Washington and Oregon State Bar Associations.
