2010 GREATER KINGSTON KIWANIS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
05/15/2009
The Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation is offering two $2,500.00 Scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Candidate must have demonstrated significant community service activities that highlight positive character, citizenship, and self-reliance. The scholarships are dedicated to the memories of two founding members of the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Club, Robert “Bud” Meredith and Sylvester “Cy” Wyse, who lived a large portion of their lives in service to others in our North Kitsap community. The scholarship applicant must live in the North Kitsap areas of Kingston, Hansville, Eglon, Indianola or Suquamish and be a U.S. citizen.
The Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation Director, Dave Wetter, stated, “We want to reward deserving students who have made contributing to our community a priority. The emphasis in awarding scholarships will be on the applicant’s volunteer and community service record coupled with their one-page personal goal statement. This statement describes them and includes comments on their educational and career goals, and how they hope to serve their community and society in the future.”
Completed application packages must be received by the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation by April 1, 2010. Interested students can obtain an application package from their counselor at Kingston High School, North Kitsap High School, Spectrum School, Kings West Academy or West Sound Academy. They can also mail their request for an application package to:
Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship
P.O. Box 830
Kingston, WA 98346-0830
Following review of received application packets, the Foundation board will schedule interviews with qualified applicants and scholarship awards will be announced by April 31, 2010. The award will be applied toward the recipient’s tuition and fees upon enrollment at an accredited college, junior or community college, or technical/vocational institution.
The Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation is supported by fund raising activities by the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Club. The club’s annual berry sale and classic Mustang raffle are the primary means the club raises funds to pay for these scholarships. Additionally, the club’s newspaper recycling bin located in front of the Kingston Thriftway is a great way for community members to support funding these scholarships.
